Frequently Asked Questions

Why is NOH renovating this summer?

After 25 years of bringing fantastic shows to Newberry, we had to address physical plant issues: upgrade the elevators, rewire the fire alarm, replace the boiler.  All projects will take a significant amount of time, so while we are down, we wanted to complete a refresh so that we can get back to an operating schedule of 11 months. By addressing these essential maintenance and modernization needs now, we aim to ensure the longevity and safety of the Newberry Opera House for decades to come. This proactive approach helps us avoid unexpected closures in the future, ensuring we can continue to offer uninterrupted cultural experiences to our patrons.

What is changing?

  • Modernizing Elevators: Upgrading our elevators to meet modern safety standards and improve accessibility for all guests.
  • Painting: Refreshing the interior and exterior with a new coat of paint to enhance the aesthetic appeal and preserve the building.
  • Replacing the Carpet: Installing new carpeting throughout the venue for a cleaner, more comfortable environment.
  • Replacing the Seating in the Theater: Introducing new, more comfortable seating to enhance the audience experience and ensure durability.
  • Improving Accessibility: Making various modifications to ensure that the venue is accessible to all, including those with disabilities, to provide an inclusive environment for everyone.

These updates are designed to not only maintain the historical integrity of the Newberry Opera House but also to enhance the overall experience for our patrons, making each visit more enjoyable and memorable.

Are the colors going to change?

Yes – The new colors chosen are in keeping with the tone and nature of the historic Newberry Opera House and the period in which it was built. Our design team carefully selected hues that respect and reflect the architectural heritage of the building while providing a refreshed, vibrant atmosphere that complements our modern upgrades.

Why are we changing the seating in the theater?

The current seating was installed in 1998 and has endured 25 years of use. Over time, seats have naturally worn down, becoming less comfortable and less supportive. Replacing the seating not only improves comfort for our patrons but also ensures that we are upholding the highest standards of safety and accessibility. New seats will provide enhanced ergonomics, better sightlines, and an overall improved experience for every audience member.

How will this affect me?

Coming soon is the next chapter of fantastic entertainment that will be more inclusive of all. The renovations mean you can look forward to a more comfortable, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing venue. While there may be temporary inconveniences during the renovation period, the result will be a greatly enhanced Newberry Opera House experience that continues to bring joy and cultural enrichment to our community.

Yes, the box office hours remain the same, Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm. You can also purchase tickets online through our website at any time. Our team is ready to assist you with all your ticketing needs and answer any questions you might have during this period.
