Adapted by playwright Catherine Bush from the timeless novel by J.M. Barrie, the Barter Players bring the magical world of Peter Pan to life in a thrilling theatrical production. The adventure begins in a quiet nursery where Wendy and her brothers love to play make-believe until a boy who never grows up, Peter Pan, and his fiery fairy companion Tinkerbell fly through the window. Together, they whisk the children away to the enchanted realm of Neverland, a place brimming with mischievous Lost Boys, a terrifying man-eating crocodile, and a fierce band of pirates. Brought to life by a talented ensemble of just six quick-changing actors who seamlessly portray a multitude of roles, this fast-paced production provides a highly engaging, unforgettable experience for audiences of all generations.

This imaginative production is proudly presented by the non-union Theatre for Young Audiences wing of Virginia’s historic Barter Theatre. Originally founded during the Great Depression in 1933, the legendary resident company became an overnight success by allowing audiences to trade farm produce for admission, famously exchanging ham for Hamlet. Today, the troupe remains dedicated to its founding Appalachian values of hard work, generosity, and community service by touring world-class, educational entertainment to youth across the country. Through creative staging and powerful storytelling, this presentation of Peter Pan perfectly embodies the company’s belief that live theatre serves as a common ground to lift, challenge, and nurture young minds.
