The Newberry Chamber Orchestra (NCO) is a unique collaboration between Newberry College’s Department of Music, talented students, and community members, creating a vibrant town-and-gown ensemble. Under the skilled direction of Dr. Patrick Casey, this string orchestra performs an engaging repertoire of classical and chamber music favorites, highlighting the talent and dedication of both students and local musicians. Each season, the orchestra performs a fall concert on campus and a spring concert at the historic Newberry Opera House, showcasing the symbiotic relationship between the college and the community.

The Newberry College Department of Music is known for its supportive, student-centered approach, offering aspiring music educators, performers, and church musicians a close-knit environment to hone their craft. With small class sizes and a dedicated faculty who are both active performers and experienced teachers, students receive individualized instruction and mentorship. Music has always been a vibrant part of Newberry College’s campus culture, and ensembles like the NCO continue to be cherished fixtures, celebrated for their contributions to both the college and the regional arts community.
