Jimmy Fortune first won the hearts of country music fans during his twenty one year tenure with the legendary Statler Brothers. After being discovered while performing at a ski resort, he stepped in for Lew DeWitt in 1982 and soon became a permanent member of the group. His smooth tenor voice and remarkable songwriting skills helped shape their sound as he penned several of their biggest hits, including Elizabeth, My Only Love, Too Much On My Heart, and Forever. Over the decades, Fortune performed across the United States and Canada, appeared on the Statlers’ long running television show, and earned opportunities to sing at the White House for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. His contributions to the group led to inductions into both the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and the Country Music Association Hall of Fame.
Following the Statler Brothers’ retirement in 2002, Fortune launched a thriving solo career that showcased his versatility and deep connection to gospel and country music. He released a series of successful albums, collaborated with Gaither Music Group on chart topping projects, and later joined Ben Isaacs, Mike Rogers, and Bradley Walker to form Brothers of the Heart, whose recordings received wide acclaim. In recent years, he added author to his list of accomplishments with the release of his memoir, Story of an American Dreamer, along with a companion CD and DVD. Jimmy Fortune continues to live in Tennessee where he writes, records, and tours, sharing his heartfelt music with fans around the world.
