Fifteen-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs is a pioneer of American roots music whose career spans over six decades. A former child prodigy who was invited onto the stage by Bill Monroe at age six, Skaggs went on to build an extraordinary career in both bluegrass and country music. After topping the country charts throughout the 1980s with twelve number-one hits and earning induction into the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, he returned to his bluegrass roots in the late 1990s by founding Skaggs Family Records. Credited with sparking a massive roots music revival, Skaggs continues to preserve and innovate within the genre, earning the National Medal of Arts for his lifelong contributions to American culture.
Alongside his world-class band Kentucky Thunder, an eight-time IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year winner, Skaggs delivers high-energy performances renowned for technical mastery and soul-stirring harmonies. The band features an elite lineup of virtuosos, including banjo player Russ Carson, flatpicking guitarist Justus Ross, multi-instrumentalist Troy Engle, bassist Gavin Kelso, rhythm guitarist Mike Rogers, and fiddler Billy Contreras. Together, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder maintain an intense touring schedule, blending traditional bluegrass classics, gospel favorites, and intricate instrumental arrangements that set the global standard for acoustic music.
