“Local Voices Shaping the Town” is an immersive 90 minute program hosted by Amelia Old at the historic Newberry Opera House, celebrating the unique identity and community spirit of South Carolina. As the author of 100 Things to Do in South Carolina Before You Die, Amelia shares her deep connection to the small towns and local businesses that define the Palmetto State. Through her eyes, audience members discover how to see beyond the main roads to find the hidden gems and local favorites that tell the true story of South Carolina. From the glowing fall colors of Table Rock State Park to charming stops like 96 Pecan Company, the presentation highlights the diverse landscapes and rich history that make the state a one of a kind destination.

The evening features a moderated panel discussion where Amelia engages with a diverse group of Newberry business owners and community leaders. These local voices offer firsthand insights into what makes Newberry a premier destination for visitors and a beloved home for residents. Panelists share personal stories of building their businesses, defining moments in the town’s evolution, and their hopes for the future of the community. The program concludes with an interactive audience Q&A followed by a special meet and greet session, where guests can engage with the speakers and have their copies of 100 Things to Do in South Carolina Before You Die signed by Amelia. This gathering serves as a powerful tribute to the people and places that continue to shape the vibrant character of Newberry.
