Puccini's Madama Butterfly

Puccini's Madama Butterfly

The most performed opera in the United States, Madama Butterfly is one of opera's most enduring tales of unrequited love. Audiences never seem to get tired of her, and opera companies would not survive without her. The entire opera is set from the point of view of the title character, Cio-Cio-Sian, who falls in love with American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton. Enduring both shame and sorrow, she decides to take destiny into her own hands...

World Classical Performing Arts Society was founded in 1995 by Jenny L. Kelly, a Baltimore native, and former opera singer. She created the classical performing arts agency to promote European opera and ballet touring companies. Since that time, she has booked over 5,000 performances for the popular European opera tour company.

Puccini's immortal tragedy, Madame Butterfly is the story of an American naval captain who sets his sights on the best and fairest of this land: the stunning Japanese beauty Cio-Cio-San. Pinkerton marries her on sight, and Cio-Cio-San, enthralled by his American ways and promise of modern life in America, falls wholeheartedly in love with the stranger.
