This year, on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, The Newberry Opera House is participating in Central Carolina Community Foundation’s 6th annual Midlands Gives day, a one-day online giving extravaganza for the Midlands region. The Newberry Opera House is a non-profit performing Arts Center that relies on annual donations to keep the doors open, the lights on and the artists performing. Only 60 % of our operating budget is covered by ticket sales and the rest has to come from donations and grants. The Newberry Opera House is a historical building and is considered one of the most compelling, innovative theatres in the Southeast and needs your help to support our many programs.

The Dufford Institute for Cultural Diversity allows for the children of Newberry are exposed to diversity through the window of the arts. Starting when children reach 3rd grade until 5th grade, the public elementary schools bring their students to one of several performances supported by the Dufford Foundation. In order to keep the price of tickets low, the Newberry Opera House needs donors and sponsors. These funds also to keep the box office open 7 days a week, help assist the backstage crew put on the best performance available, provide home-cooked meals for the entertainers, and help us bring programs that are family-friendly. The Newberry Opera House has different donation levels that can be affordable from many income levels. If you are unable to afford to donate to the Newberry Opera House, we also are always in need of volunteers to serve as Ushers, Concession Workers, Hospitality Hosts, Tour Guides, Runners/Drivers and many other volunteer positions. Visit the Newberry Opera House website to find more information about volunteering with us.

Last year, more than 370 organizations across our region came together to fundraise during Midlands Gives and raised over 1.7 million dollars. Since 2014, Midlands Gives has inspired giving from thousands of philanthropists in our region and nation, resulting in increased donations and services provided in the Midlands of SC. We invite you to join the movement and help us reach our goal of raising $65,000 on May 7. Please consider donating to the Newberry Opera House through midlands gives to help us reach our goal. By visiting, the online giving website for Midlands Gives, you can make a difference with your gift. This year we have a $35,000 matching gift given by generous donors and bond members that takes us more than halfway to our goal of 65,000. Every dollar you give during May 7 will be doubled This is a trend we hope to continue this year by setting our goal at $65,000. Will you help us achieve this lofty goal by renewing your Donation level?

We would like to thank you for your support and all you do for the Newberry Opera House through giving, volunteering and attending.
