Newberry, SC- Every season, the Newberry Opera House hosts a few great bands that have been performing music for many years. Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers are one of these bands, they have been writing and performing country music for over 60 years throughout the US and internationally.  The Gatlin Brothers are critically renowned for their number of hit songs and their songwriting skills, especially those of Larry Gatlin.

Larry Gatlin The Gatlin Brothers 360Larry Gatlin and his brothers, Steve and Ruby, starting to sing gospel music during the 1960s when they were children, they were singing from coast to coast and even sang at the 1964 World fair in New York City. Larry Gatlin went to college at the University of Houston in 1966 before auditioning to be back up singer for the Imperials. He didn’t get the job but meet Dottie West who recognized his talent and she hired him to write songs for her. She liked his music so much, she set him up with a chance to start his own career with the help of her agent. Larry released his first album called Pilgrim later that year. His brothers joined him in 1975 after they finished both finished college.

Since then, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers have been one of the most successful Country Music band of all time. Their accolades include nine Grammy® nominations and one Grammy® award, three ACM awards, five CMA award nominations, and 5 BMI awards. The Gatlin Brothers have accumulated seven #1 singles, 32 top 40 records, 22 studio albums, and Larry Gatlin ranks 4th with the most self-penned top 40 Billboard hits. Their most popular songs include: “All the Gold In California”, “Broken Lady”, “Houston(Means I'm One Day Closer To You)”, “Stand Up and Say So”,  “Bitter They are, Harder They Fall” and “Love Is Just A Game”.
