Midlands Gives Facebook Cover CS5 02

Save the date - Midlands Gives is Tuesday, May 1, 2018!

Join us for 24 hours of giving to benefit the Newberry Opera House, you make the difference.

We would like to thank you for your support and all you do for the Newberry Opera House through giving, volunteering and attending. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and helps sustain the Opera House as the premier performing arts venue of the Southeast, something of which we can ALL be proud!

Did you know that Midlands Gives is coming up Tuesday, May 1, 2018? When you give during Midlands Gives, your gift will help us receive extra funds through prizes. By visiting Midlandsgives.org, the online giving website for Midlands Gives, you can make a difference with your gift. Each year with your support we have successfully doubled the donations as compared to the previous year with Midlands Gives. This is a trend we hope to continue this year by setting our goal at $60,000. Will you help us achieve this lofty goal by renewing your Donation level?

We are thankful to some very special donors and our Board of Directors who have stepped forward and combined their large donations into a matching gift of $37,000. We are more than halfway to attaining our goal, and every dollar you give doubles! You can help us get closer to that goal by donating on May 1st!

Whether you have been a donor to the Opera House for the past 20 years or are still thinking about donating, now is the perfect time of year to give. All qualifying donations will be honored towards membership levels for the 2018-19 season. Want to buy your 2018-19 tickets before everyone else? Join/renew your Phantom or Order of the Gar membership at this time, and you will qualify for advance ticket purchase opportunities. Please see the included brochure to learn more about our donation levels and their benefits.

What does your donation fund? Ticket sales only cover 60% of the Newberry Opera House’s operating budget, without your help we could not expand our growing Family Adventure Series; continue to offer gracious hospitality to our patrons by keeping our Box Office open 7 days a week; and support our hospitality department by providing home cooked meals for the entertainers. Just ask the Oak Ridge Boys, we are nationally renowned for our Southern Hospitality!

Please remember to mark your calendar for Midlands Gives on May 1st. You have 24 hours to give online. Please use your credit card, at https://www.midlandsgives.org/newberryoperahouse (or make sure to select the Newberry Opera House when you visit MidlandsGives.org) and make your dollars go further. Together with your partnership, we can accomplish wonderful things!

reaching the tower
The Newberry Opera House is truly a grand lady.  She has served generations of Newberrians dating back to 1882.  Her most recent return to service as an award winning performing arts center began twenty years ago.  Re-opened following a long-awaited restoration, in her recent history, she has hosted a total of over a couple thousand performances and has inspired over a million tickets sales.  Performers from around the world have played her stage; and evolving as a premier destination venue, she has become known for her charming historic setting, superb acoustics, and unique experiential intimacy, making her the Entertainment Center of the Midlands.

Twenty years having passed, the Newberry Opera House is beginning to need some extra attention.  The grand lady continues to serve well, but there are those areas that need addressing; and the occasion of her anniversary seems the time to do so.  There are the faucets in the bathrooms that require somewhat of a magician’s touch to operate. There are areas in need of re-painting, and some general repairs, updates, and improvements required.  New equipment to accommodate today’s changes in technology are essential, and there are those things which simply need replacing after two decades of use.   You may have noticed a sagging table or black masking tape on stackable chairs.  We can do better!

The Newberry Opera House Foundation Board invites you to join us in celebrating the 20th Anniversary by donating toward “REACHING THE TOWER” in order to accomplish these goals.  The Newberry Opera House is so special, and it is only fitting that the Newberry Opera House look her best and be her best as we play our part in her history.  The Newberry Opera House was a gift given to us by Newberrians of generations ago, and it is both our pleasure and responsibility to ensure that this treasured gift continues into the future being all that she can be!  Please join us.

--The Newberry Opera House Foundation Board and Executive Director Molly Fortune
