On the four successive Tuesdays following the birthday party, musical concerts will be given in honor of the Anniversary.  February 27th at 6:30 PM is an evening of Newberry County Elementary School Honor Chorus performances.  March 6th  at 6:30 PM is a celebration of Middle and High School Honor Choruses and the Middle and County Honor High School Bands.  Newberry College will be showcasing their talent on the evening of March 13th at 6:30 PM, and the final celebration performance on March 20th at 7:00 PM is an auditioned show of selected Newberry talent being called “The Sounds of Newberry.”

As part of the Newberry Opera House's 20th Anniversary events, the final night of Tribute Tuesdays will honor talent from the community. Honorees were selected from those with Newberry County connections who submitted applications and youtube videos. These five were chosen to perform on the Opera House stage on March 20 at 7:00 P.M. They will also be featured in the Newberry Magazine's March/April edition.

Emily Anderson

This 13 year old is in the 8th grade at Mid-Carolina Middle School. She is a huge fan of Broadway musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies and Les Miserables. Emily is also a member of the Rebel Regiment Mid-Carolina's marching band where she plays the French horn.

Kristin Caughman

After graduating from Mid-Carolina High School, this Newberry County native attended Newberry College earning her Bachelors of Music Education and the University of South Carolina for her masters.  Kristin is currently the choral director for Mid-Carolina Middle School; a private trumpet instructor; a sponsor of Junior Beta Club, Academic Bowl, and Rebel Star Competition; and drives an afternoon bus route. Kristin is also a singer-songwriter, which she incorporates into her classroom, and as lead female vocalist and keyboardist for the Americana band Blackbeard’s Truck. 

Andy Shull

Andy is a resident of Prosperity S.C., and a retired public school Music Educator having thirty four years of service including twenty five years as a band director, in which seven were at the Mid-Carolina Schools, in Prosperity S.C.  He currently teaches guitar at Crooked Creek Recreational Complex, in Chapin S.C., and performs with the band Second Nature, and the Wightman UMC Praise Band, in Prosperity S.C.

Mourning Dove (Lisa Stubbs)

Mourning Dove (Lisa Stubbs) is a psych-folk musician from Greenville, South Carolina. Often playing as a duo, featuring Niel Brooks, she released her first EP, Chrysalis, in Spring 2014. Inspired by her mother Renee Stubbs and grandmother Fae Cousins, Lisa has always loved to sing. Mourning Dove frequently plays in venues all around Greenville. As well as playing in Newberry this year, she was invited to open for Edwin McCain, and has also played at Fall for Greenville and Albino Skunk Music Festival, two prominent festivals in the upstate. Three Quarter Time (Ann & Merritt Moseley and Billy Summer)

Three Quarter Time was formed in 2017 by long time friends Billy Summer, Merritt Moseley and Ann Moseley.  Ann & Merritt are active in the music ministry at Central United Methodist Church where Merritt is Director of Music. The couple shared The Ritz Theatre stage with Billy in the trilogy of plays about the Sanders Family, Smoke on the Mountain, Sanders Family Reunion, and Sanders Family Christmas. Playing since very young, Billy Summer is a Joanna native. He played with Joyride before joining Grand Illusion, where he shared the stage with Merritt for a while. The trio covers diverse songs from the 60s to current hits including The Beatles, CSNY, Little Big Town, Doobie Brothers, Queen and much more.  For booking information, email This email address is being protected from spambots. Tickets for each of the four evenings of musical performances will be General Admission and will be $5 for children and $10 for adults.  Click the dates above to purchase tickets for each performance. A $5 per order handling fee will apply if bought online.

 It has been, and continues to be, a grand tradition to bring world class entertainment to the stage of the Opera House, but the 20th Anniversary belongs to the people of Newberry.  As Executive Director, Molly Fortune, says after introducing the performers night after night, “Welcome HOME to the Newberry Opera House.”  This award winning historic theater belongs to the people of Newberry, and for her landmark 20th Anniversary celebration, she will host her own….HOME—Honoring Outstanding Musical Entertainment.  Please join in celebrating the 20th Anniversary and share in the joy of music provided by Newberry County’s Schools ranging from the Elementary level through College!
