  Tony Butala began singing professionally at age seven in Sharon, Pennsylvania, and by the age of eight was singing on KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh, PA.  By 1960 The Lettermen were signed to Warner Brothers Records and released their first singles: "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring," "When," "The Magic Sound," and "Two Hearts."  The vision of The Lettermen was of three strong soloists who also had the ability to perform and entertain an audience, also having the discipline needed to be group singers.  The sound they came up with has proved to be eternally popular.
