8:00pm Porgy and Bess A Concert Version
Sponsored by the Dufford Institute for Cultural Diversity
$30.00 $25.00
A concert version of the quintessential Opera of the American South by George Gershwin, and lyrics by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin.  Caroline Stoessinger will direct four singers from the Metropolitan Opera Company.  Porgy is based on Heyward's novel Porgy and chronicles African-American life in the fictitious Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1920s.  "Summertime," "It Ain't Necessarily So," "Bess, You Is My Woman Now," "I Loves You Porgy" and "I Got Plenty o' Nuttin'."  The opera is a synthesis of European orchestral techniques with American jazz and folk music.  (Ticket & Dinner $60.00).
8:00pm Elixir of Love - Teatro Lirico D'Europa
Sponsored by Audrey Love Charitable Foundation
(stud. 1/2 price)
Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore is produced by Teatro Lirico D'Europa and features great music and a charming, humorous plot.  It's a "feel good" opera to say the least.  Nemorino, a peasant, is in love with the wealthy landowner Adina, but she has eyes only for dashing Sergeant Belcore.  Dr Dulcamara, a quack doctor, sells Nemorino a love potion (actually, cheap wine) that will cause Adina to fall in love with him within a day.  Chaos ensues, but, as it should true love wins out.  Dr Dulcamara's elixir has worked! (Ticket & Dinner $85.00).
